What is the most important at work?

All of us are extremely busy at work. We have a lot of tasks and don't know how to organize our working day. We sometimes begin to tackle with a task, then we postpone it, take another one which seems to us more urgent. This task is followed by another one and so on. We feel confused and don't know what to do at first and what to do next. As a result we simply do nothing. No, it is wrong to say that we do a lot of work and spend much time and energy for it, but our results are sometimes zero. It can be very dangerous as it threatens dismissal for systematic breach of duty.

The ability to organize your working day is not a sort of art and each person can learn how to do it. It is very easy and quite attainable.

First of all you should think about your priorities. This will help you to concentrate on your principal tasks. You should sort all your tasks according to the level of their importance. Analyze them and determine which of them are urgent and which simply divert your attention from the most important things.

Those tasks which brook no delay are those which should be done first of all. If you put them aside or postpone to the next day you can violate your global plans. Do these tasks at first but always control their amount, because other less important tasks can become urgent if they are not done in time. The most important thing here is not to turn your important tasks into urgent ones.

There is another category of important tasks, but they are not so urgent as compared with the first group. They are your main responsibilities, creation of important business contacts, self-perfection and improvement of your personal and professional qualities and productive efficiency. The fact that you don't have to proceed to these matters today and even tomorrow make you think that you will be engaged in them some day and this day often fails to come. Though these maters are not so urgent, it doesn't mean that you can neglect them. If you will, you are likely to be unsuccessful in future. Don't forget about them as thus you can avoid serious mistakes in your work.

There is a category of tasks which are contrary to the previous one. These are tasks which are urgent but not so important. They are writing business letters, answering to them, carrying out colleagues' requests, etc. Imaginary urgency makes you think that you must put aside everything and proceed to them. Thus you spend more time for them than they really deserve.

The last category includes tasks which are neither important, nor urgent. Strange as it may be, but we often spend too much time for them. They are misuse of the internet and reading jokes and anecdotes, listening to music, etc. I think that it is not necessary to explain to you why they are unimportant, you can understand it yourself. Value your time and don't spend it for rubbish.
